the weekend catastrophe

Saturday turned out to be a very eventful day. My husband started to clear out the forested area with hopes to build a little playground for the children under the trees. He was using the the gas trimmer to clear out the brush. The little ones pitched in, putting the smaller branches and twigs into a pile to be used for campfires during the summer months.

Then my husband got out the chain saw...my stomach sank. One of the big birch trees was dead and needed to come down. Did he know what he was doing? I wasn't sure. The tree was awfully near the vehicles. I wanted to shout out...but didn't want to interfere...besides the saw was too loud. I motioned for the kids to come to the house.

One cut...then two...crack, bam, boom! Down came the tree...but the wrong way. It was like watching a movie in slow motion. The first part of it hit our school bus (the trusty vehicle that we drove across Canada in)...no damage done...phew...wait, no...ahhh!!

...the whole top part of the tree fell straight onto my son's girlfriend's car, smashed out the back window and dented in the roof. Yikes. Not good.

The good news is that no one was hurt. The bad news...we're not sure how bad because we haven't gotten the insurance bill. :(
