nature's solace

I woke up yesterday morning with a list of "to do's" a mile long. I started to plod through my day with a heavy heart. Having just heard some sad news about a loved one's health, everything seemed to be that much more daunting. My daughter needed a prom dress sewn...my home-based business needed some attention...my couch was full of clean laundry to be folded...and my little ones needed me to be really present to them. I was overwhelmed.

And then I had an idea. I needed to find peace and where do I find that most often? Out in nature. I packed up my kids and went to our little "oasis" down the road...

A place where the children can roam free..

 ...shoes and tights discarded...

...no toys needed.

I sat on my favourite rock to soak up the beauty...to pray...

Ever so slowly, I began to feel peace again. I was able to let go of the crazy mind chatter, the list in my planner, the "I really should's" and spend quality time with my two beautiful girls.

How can you help but feel JOY, when you look at these delightful faces!!

Their playful exuberance was catching! Who doesn't like wading in the water and "squidging" sand between their toes. :) After about an hour of this (the blackflies started to find us), I was ready to go home and tackle the rest of my day...with my priorities back in order...with a whole new perspective.

Thank you God for the awe inspiring world you have created, but most of all for the beautiful people you have allowed me to share my life with. :)

  1. Awww, thank you so much for this inspiring post! I agree with you that we need to take more time, as mothers, to enjoy THIS MOMENT without worrying about what is to come because God will take care of that for us!

  2. I know how you feel! As a "planner" by nature, life often feels like a big checklist for me. I have to remind myself often to slow down and LIVE in the moment. Thank you for reminding me!

  3. So true. This very experience happened to me a few weeks back and a trip to Gatineau Park set me straight.
It is amazing the gift that nature is.

  4. This really hits home for me too! Even though my severely neglected home needs lots of work to straighten things up, I've been forcing myself to get outside with the kids, to play a little catch and push them on the swings, as well as digging in the garden and getting very dirty. Balance is good, but so hard to strive for at times.

  5. Becky, I woke up in the exact same frame of mind this morning. Couldn't sleep last night running over the list of things to do, eventually I just got up and started writing the list in hopes that I could finally sleep. I woke with a tightness in my chest and lump in my throat. And before I even had my cup of tea I was already sorting and stressing...your post inspired me and now I am going to take my cup of coffee down to the water and reflect and find peace. Thanks for sharing. I love you so much,
    XO
